As mentioned before, the girls basketball team here at Trinity University is working just as hard in the off season and during the regular season. But working hard does not necessarily mean you cannot have as much fun. The girls have deemed Thursday open gym days as dress up days. The kick off theme? Retro day. Girls took this theme in many different directions. There were neon shirts and zebra stripped leggings, along with leg warmers and tie dye and even knee high socks. Although the dress was goofy, there was anything but joking around on the court. Once the girls hit the floor it is all business. There were swished three point shots and unique post moves as the heads of onlookers did a double take. This kind of team chemistry only makes the team stronger. When the team does activities such as these, it helps them become closer together and eventually takes the place, and relationships, they had on their high school team. For me, it's time to retire my "Spartan" sign, and make a "Tiger" one.

Post Season
Even though their season ended, the time the Trinity Women's basketball team spent together did not. Five girls spent spring break together and others kept in touch the whole week. Once spring break ended and everyone was back on campus, they hung out every weekend (and continue to do so) celebrating birthdays, finished papers and anything else they can think of to spend time together. Along with team building they are working to build their talent as well. Coach has post season individual meetings with all the members on the team explaining strengths and weaknesses to each player. The girls then work on making their weaknesses strongers and perfecting their strengths. They have open gym three times a week. The girls also work out together as various times of the day in order to stay conditioned. The post season is busy for the coaches as well. This is the busiest time of year for recruiting. This is when the new recruits decide to commit to the school or not. Recruits are brought in from all over the country. They stay overnight with members of the team to see if they like the atmosphere or not. So far, there are five players committed to joining the team next year. Hopefully they are working just as hard in the off season as the returning players are.
Some girls on the team took a trip to South Padre for the weekend

SCAC Tournament
The end of February for college basketball teams is crunch time and the Trinity lady tigers were no exception. They had been preparing the whole month and battled their way into the Southern Colliegate Athletic Conference tournament in Jackson, Mississippi. The Tigers went on a 4-0 winning run to end their regular season at home. This ending landed them as the second seed in the conference tournament. The bracket is split up into the east and west and therefore has two number one seeds. Trinity was the only team in the whole conference to beat both number one seeds during the regular season. Trinity faced Rhodes College in the quarter final match up; they had beaten Rhodes by ten during the regular season. This time, Trinity won by a clear margin of victory greater than 20 points. Everyone on the team scored. Coach Bradley said, “it proved how deep of a bench we have, not every team in the conference can play every single person and still be victorious.” Unfortunately, Trinity fell to nationally ranked Depaw University who was also their conference rival. Depaw went on to win the conference tournament to deserve a bid in the NCAA tournament after ending Trinity’s season.

Basketball Banquet
On Saturday February 12th, the Trinity tigers women’s basketball team had their end of season banquet. Although they hope their season is far from over, they celebrated how far they’ve come from the beginning of the season and paid tribute to the four years of hard work their seniors put into the program. The banquet was located at Scenic Loop CafĂ© in Boerne, Texas. There, the girls, coaches and parents enjoyed fajitas with chips and queso while reminiscing in shared memories. The team put together a video of memories throughout the season. When 15 college girls spend almost everyday together since October 20th there are bound to be some crazy things happen. The team put together a video of all their season highlights, as well as those funny moments. The underclassmen took on the challenge of paying tribute to the seniors by mocking them on film and doing and saying things the seniors did throughout the season. It was all in good fun and the seniors got their chance as well. They presented each underclassman with a gift while sharing a goofy story about them to the whole room. The banquet helped the team realize how lucky they are to be a part of such a great group and team. Senior captain Danielle Hubenak commented, “it was the perfect event to send us into our last four home games. It made us realize how great of a team we have and really helped our team chemistry.”

Team Dynamics
Any coach, scout or broadcaster will say that team dynamics leads to team chemistry which inevitably leads to wins. With a team made up of predominately freshman from all over the country, it is no wonder why the Trinity Women’s Basketball team got off to a rough start. Along with a new freshman crew, the team had to endure the adversity of six people quitting throughout the season, two of which were starters from the previous year. Head coach Amie Bradley emphasized the talent of the freshman class. She has started as many as two freshmen in one game, and another three get significant playing time off the bench. This upset some upperclassmen and led two seniors and one sophomore to quit the team. With such a young team, it was difficult to overcome this instability and adversity, and their record reflects it. However, over winter break, being virtually the only people on campus, the team bonded to overcome the adversities they had seen earlier in the season. They did team building activities set up by the coaches such as a scavenger hunt at the San Antonio Zoo. This led them to a four game winning streak beating number one ranked team in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference west, Hendrix, and the number ten ranked team in the nation, Depaw. With these two wins, the Trinity Tigers boosted themselves to second place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
